Jared Sales — music videos, short films & live concert visuals out of Toronto. Two decades of award-winning comedy and viral video behind the lens.
Jared began taking the stage as a standup comedian at twenty-three, which led to an audition for MadTV and collaborations with comedic legends Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty and Robin Duke.
He helped shape Toronto's alternative comedy scene, co-founding live shows like Canker, Righteous Wednesdays, Not Safe For Work, and Laugh Sabbath — ranked among NOW Magazine's top comedy shows of the year. His work with the Sketchersons earned Best Comedy Sketch Troupe at the 2007 Canadian Comedy Awards, and his site was named NOW Magazine's Best Comedy Website.
As his comedy evolved, Jared moved into video. In the early days of YouTube, Myspace and Funny or Die, his work racked up millions of views — his film "Everydave Life" placed first in Funny or Die's Funniest Video in Canada and screened at the 2008 Just For Laughs Film Festival. His work landed on NBC, CBS, ABC, The Today Show and FX UK, and EMI Canada hired him to direct the viral campaign for Katy Perry's Teenage Dream.
In 2011 he co-created and directed the sitcom Guidance, which ran two seasons on BiteTV and earned multiple Canadian Comedy Award nominations including Best TV Director. He later joined Insight Productions as a producer on America, Eh!
Today Jared directs acclaimed live-action and animated music videos and live concert visuals, collaborating with Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think, Trans Am, Charles Spearin, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Brave Shores, Maylee Todd, Woodhands, Laura Barrett, The Good Lovelies, The Gravity Wave, The Bicycles and more. His videos have been featured on KCRW LA, MuchMusic, MTV, CBC and AuxTV. His animation has played at the Art Gallery of Ontario. He has taught film production at Humber College and spoken on viral media at Toronto Metropolitan University.
